NJ Foot & Ankle Conditions & Procedures

Christopher E. Hubbard, board-certified foot and ankle orthopedic surgeon is well-known for his outstanding skill and his consummate knowledge of his area of expertise.

Foot Health Conditions

The foot is a complex part of the body, containing many joints, nerves, and small bones. As one might expect, since the foot bears the full weight of the human body whenever we stand erect, walk or run, the foot is vulnerable to a great many injuries. Some injuries may occur due to strenuous sports activities; others may be the result of genetic deformities, improper footwear, or overuse. Dr. Hubbard is highly adept at performing surgeries to correct common foot problems, like bunions, hammertoes, neuromas, and foot fractures. He also has extensive experience in performing more complicated operations, including posterior tibial tendon reconstruction, sesamoidectomy, and all types of foot revision.

Ankle Conditions

The ankle is an important joint. When injured it is not only very painful, but greatly interferes with mobility. Most often ankle injuries are caused by simple falls, accidents, or by recreational or athletic activities. Though fractures of the ankle, Achilles ruptures, and ligament tears may be the ankle conditions most often discussed, Dr. Hubbard treats all types of injuries to the ankle, often arthroscopically. He routinely transfers tendons and performs fusions, fracture fixations, and even complete ankle revision surgeries. Learn more about common ankle conditions by clicking on the links below.

Cartilage Repair

Cartilage is a connective tissue found many parts of the body, including in the foot and ankle. It acts as a cushion between the bones of the joints, helping to support our weight when we run, bend and stretch. Even though cartilage is both tough and flexible, it can be damaged surprisingly easily, causing joint pain, stiffness and inflammation. While cartilage damage in the feet and ankles has historically been treated with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to reduce pain and inflammation, there are now many other methods of combating the problem, only a few of them surgical. Since cartilage has no blood vessels, Dr. Hubbard sometimes uses platelet-rich plasma treatment, bone marrow stimulation, or bone marrow aspirate to accelerate cartilage healing. In other cases he employs one or another type of allograft transplantation.

Sports Procedures

In addition to providing a healthy energy outlet and exercising the body, athletic events are a popular form of entertainment to watch as well as a enjoyable form of recreation. Of course, along with sports activity comes the possibility of injury. A great variety of injuries occur in the feet and ankles which is when the intricate knowledge and skill of an orthopedic surgeon specializing in the foot and ankle is essential. Dr. Christopher Hubbard is fully prepared to perform the following reparative surgeries: Achilles reconstruction with FHL tendon transfer,
Achilles rupture repair, peroneal tendon repair, ankle arthroscopy, Lisfranc injury fixation, and cheilectomy for hallux rigidus. All of these operations are designed to be performed as efficiently as possible in order to get the player back on the field or court as quickly as possible.
